Program Description
Students who major in physics learn to observe nature and understand concepts that are the key principles in many other science and engineering fields. Our graduates become problem solvers in a wide variety of industrial and technically sophisticated research and development settings. We also support a program that prepares secondary school teachers. Our distinctive areas include optics, astrophysics, and physics education, and we provide engaging opportunities for student-centered research.

Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:
Students may complete the 77-80 credit major by taking all of the core courses above, completing a Computational Requirement course as outlined below, plus at least 9 credits from one of the concentrations listed below. No more than 3 credits of PHYS 415 may be counted towards the major.

At least 9 credits from 300- or 400-level courses selected from within the ASTR, ENGR, or PHYS rubrics. Alternatively, courses offered in other departments may be selected with approval of the physics major adviser. Such courses must be selected from departments within the College of Science and Engineering.
