Program Description

The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering program is designed for full and part-time students desiring advanced study in electrical engineering. The program emphasizes advanced courses in the areas of computers, communication, signal processing, biomedical engineering, controls, and computer aided design of integrated circuits.

Admissions Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with a major GPA of at least 3.0 in the last two years. Provisional admission for students who have undergraduate degrees in technical areas such as mathematics, physics, computer science, and other engineering disciplines may be possible.   • Minimum Quantitative GRE score of 155.

  • Students who score below 4.0 on the analytical writing portion of the GRE are required to complete an approved SCSU English writing course with a grade of C or better.

  • The GRE requirement is waived for applicants with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from St. Cloud State and a major GPA of at least 3.0 in the last two years.

  • Some undergraduate courses may be required for applicants who have BS degrees but need additional undergraduate training in specific areas for successful completion of the MSEE.

Thesis option. Credits: 30

Core: 18-24 credits of 500- and 600-level ECE classes (exclusive of course) including a minimum of 12 credits of course-level courses including 3 credits of course. Select courses with advisor approval.

Electives: 0-6 credits from 500- and 600-level courses in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, material science, or biology. Select courses with advisor approval.

Research: 6 credits: course.

Starred papers with Comprehensive Exam. Credits: 33

Core: 21-30 credits of 500- and 600-level ECE classes (exclusive of course) including a minimum of 15 credits of course-level courses including 3 credits of course. Select courses with advisor approval.

Electives: 0-9 credits from 500- and 600-level courses in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, material science, or biology. Select courses with advisor approval.

Research: 3 credits: course.

Portfolio/Project | Portfolio/Internship. Credits: 36

Core: 21-30 credits of 500- and 600-level ECE classes including a minimum of 15 credits of course-level courses and 3 credits of course. Select courses with advisor approval.
